"You Are in Your Own Country" is a documentary art-project about the way you feel living in Ukraine. These feelings are controversial. 80% of people feel that they don`t fit in here and are outsiders. There are many reasons for this, and they concern social, economic, educational and psychological aspects of our life. Let`s speak up! We`ll understand that we are not alone with such problems because a problem which is spoken about within society is not the problem of only one person; it becomes a common problem of the society.
Then there`s a chance to solve it. The whole country has been divided and rocked by small social groups which often have no idea what is going on in the society next to them. There`s no wonder why we`re moving on so slowly. Find common ground, see each other. Are you willing to build your relations with yourself and your country?
WHO ARE YOU IN YOUR COUNTRY? DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU DO NOT FIT IN HERE? DO NOT BELONG HERE? ARE YOU AN OUTSIDER? PROBABLY NOT. ARE YOU IN LOVE WITH YOUR COUNTRY? MAYBE YOU`VE GOT SOME OTHER FEELINGS. DID YOU LEAVE IT TO LOOK FOR HAPPINESS IN ANOTHER PLACE, OR DID YOU STAY HERE AND KEEP ON FIGHTING? IT`S NOT ENOUGH TO BE BORN AND LIVE IN THE COUNTRY TO FEEL THAT THIS IS YOURS. YOU HAVE TO BUILD IT. AND YOU SHOULD START WITH YOURSELF: FOLLOW THE RULES, LISTEN TO AND RESPECT EACH OTHER, KEEP TO YOUR PROMISES. WE ARE A SINCERE TALENTED ROMANTIC NATION WITH DEEP ROOTS. START FROM INSIDE WITH YOURSELF.
You are in your own country` is a documentary art project which raises an issue of feeling like a second class person in Ukrainian society. Such situations when a person doesn`t get any support from the country, the society and even such close people as friends and parents. We are delighted to present you the series of interviews in which people from different walks of life - professions, ages and life experience - share their dreams, desires, vision and the way they strive for their right on their self-fulfillment. The way they get back their feeling of integrity and independence from a social opinion. The way they find themselves. And the alienation of the exterior environment doesn`t hinder. The things that help their development and the things that become an obstacle on their way.
